Class C Commercial Driver's License

The commercial driving license of class C (CDL) also sometimes referred to as a trucker's license offers a wide range of vehicle types. It is among the most flexible CDLs. It can be used for everything from recreational vehicles and buses to passenger vehicles, and even hazmat transportation vehicles.

Straight trucks can be driven as well as box trucks, dump trucks and buses that carry 16 or more people, including the driver.

New York drivers can choose from a range of license classes. These classes are tailored to accommodate different driving styles and types. A category C+E license is the most comprehensive HGV license that you can get that allows drivers to drive an array of large vehicles. This includes double and single trailers that have a maximum authorized mass (MAM), up to 8,250kg. It also allows drivers to drive articulated vehicles, such as lorries and coaches, and also the more basic drawbar vehicle, also known as an artic or tipper truck.

As well as trucks and passenger cars drivers who have a category C licence can operate small commercial vehicles like vans, dump trucks, and straight or box trucks. Drivers with the category C license may also apply for an additional licence called a T endorsement. This allows them to drive double or triple-trailer vehicles. They must pass an additional written and practical test, in addition to a driving assessment. This is an additional requirement that can be added to a category C licence. Some employers require drivers to possess the T license only for certain jobs. Other drivers choose to have it to expand their options in the workplace and prove that they're able to operate a more sophisticated vehicle.

Hazardous Materials
